Over the course of the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) project furthering my knowledge about AI mass surveillance has been very interesting. during this.During this project me and my team of 4 more decided to take a brief look at Mass surveillance, wondering if we were sacrificing privacy over security. From the day I initiate to embark on the research as well as interacting with other NYAS members, what amazed me is the amount of literature or knowledge base available on the broad theme of mass surveillance and AI involvement in it.
From this project, I have been informed of how AI is being employed to track people at scale in the public and private domains. Read also about the use of AI in surveillance: From facial recognition technology to predictive algorithms, AI can do a lot. I have also learnt the fairness and justice problems associated with the massive camouflaging of people such as privacy and discrimination and consent. This project has made me analyze a lot about the place of technology in our society and security measures and freedom.
While working on the NYAS project, I look forward to defining possible ways how this type of surveillance can be prevented in the future and what better practices can replace the current ones. Therefore, there is an opening for modifying the direction of AI for surveillance usages by providing policy shifts, technological development, and awareness raising for accountability, transparent, and ethically integrating AI safeguarding targets. This I thank the team for availing the chance for producing this enlightening piece on AI mass surveillance and its effects on the society.
It truly was an amazing experience with which I was able to brainstorm more on such topics and learn more about AI in particular.
